Start with the airport clock
Split Airport is in Kaštela, toward Trogir. The airport’s own guidance says it is about 6 km from Trogir and 20 km from Split, and warns that summer road traffic can be heavy. That changes the first-day decision: the most central-looking base is not automatically the fastest one for a Saturday check-in.
Build the quote around the actual arrival time, luggage volume and handover slot. A private transfer to Kaštela usually keeps the group together; public line 37 serves the airport and Trogir, while a Split shuttle adds road time. Ask the operator whether late check-in, parking and grocery delivery are available at the chosen marina.

Marina Kaštela: the low-friction charter start
Marina Kaštela describes itself as a start point between Split, Solin and Trogir, about 7 km from Split Airport. It lists 420 sea berths, 200 land berths, a 500-metre breakwater and depths of roughly 8–11 metres. Around the charter handover, the practical advantages are fuel, water, electricity, restaurants, parking, service and a marina team on VHF 17.
The bay is not a promise that every catamaran fits every pontoon. Include the boat’s beam, draft, generator and shore-power needs in the request. For a first crew, ask for the exact grocery drop point and whether the yacht can remain in the berth during a late-arriving guest’s safety briefing.
ACI Trogir: city access with a more deliberate approach
ACI Marina Trogir is on Čiovo, opposite Trogir’s centre across a canal roughly one hundred metres wide. ACI lists 161 berths and daily vessels up to 30 metres. That layout is excellent for a crew that wants dinner and a short walk after check-in, but it makes the final approach part of the booking conversation.
For a catamaran or a crew with little stern-to experience, request the berth dimensions and a marina arrival briefing. If the arrival is late, keep the first night inside or near the base instead of forcing a same-day jump to Brač. Trogir is a strong choice when the city experience matters more than the shortest possible taxi ride.
Brač and Šolta: two different first-trip rhythms
Brač is the more visible first island because Milna and Bol offer a clear target after check-in, while Šolta is close enough for a shorter island day. Do not turn the first afternoon into a mileage test: leave time for the safety briefing, a swim check and a conservative night berth. A calm first stop usually improves the whole week more than one extra harbour.
Maslinica’s Martinis Marchi Marina lists 50 berths, a 12-nautical-mile connection to Split and a maximum draft of 12 metres. It can be a beautiful finish or a boutique base, but only if the operator confirms that your charter starts and ends there. Otherwise plan Šolta as a stop and keep the contractual return to Kaštela or Trogir.
Weather and return logic for a first Split charter
Central Dalmatia can look easy on a map because the islands are close. Afternoon sea-breeze, a bora or a passing jugo still changes the exposed side of Brač and the decision to cross toward Šolta or Hvar. Check the Croatian marine forecast before each departure and make the first move early enough to preserve a sheltered alternative.
Keep the final night at the contractual base unless the operator accepts another berth in writing. Add fuel, check-out, luggage and airport traffic to the calculation.
