How to use this comparison

Choose a base from your real route, arrival airport and crew profile — not from a generic ranking. This guide compares three different starting scenarios.

Capo d’Orlando — best for Aeolian Islands

Official marina information states 553 berths, refuelling and technical services, and positions the base about 14 nautical miles from the Aeolian Islands. It is the strongest choice when the week is built around Lipari, Vulcano and Salina.

Use it for a crew that wants a purpose-built marina and a short first leg toward the islands. Confirm exact charter-fleet availability and the handover time, because the marina itself is not the same thing as a charter operator.

Milazzo — best for the fastest island start

Milazzo is the practical option when the priority is a direct jump toward Lipari; published route distances put Lipari at roughly 21 nautical miles. It suits a focused Aeolian itinerary more than a broad Sicily road-trip.

Choose it when arriving ready to sail and when the crew accepts a less resort-like first evening. Protect the final return day because island weather can change the sequence.

Palermo — best for a city-and-west-coast plan

Palermo offers airport and city advantages, but it is not the efficient base for an Aeolian-only week: published route data places Lipari around 80 nautical miles away. It makes more sense for Cefalù, the north-west coast or a city-led holiday.

Do not choose Palermo only because flights are convenient. Check the resulting first and last sailing days against the route you actually want.

Base comparison table

  • Best route: Capo d’Orlando — best for Aeolian Islands
  • Best arrival/logistics: Milazzo — best for the fastest island start
  • Best alternative: Palermo — best for a city-and-west-coast plan
  • Always confirm: exact charter base, check-in, fuel return, berth plan and weather alternative.

Decision rule before booking

Ask TrimTeam to compare the same boat and dates from the two most relevant bases. The answer should explain what changes in transfer, first day, route, marina costs and final return.
