How to use the route

For a first Italian charter, Marina di Stabia is a practical starting point for the Gulf of Naples. The marina lists 789 berths and a position close to Naples, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. This plan uses short passages, keeps the final return realistic and treats famous anchorages as subject to availability, not as guarantees.

Day 1 — Marina di Stabia to Sorrento

Complete the technical handover, check the engine, safety equipment, draft, inventory and deposit procedure. After a late arrival, spend the night in base. With an early check-in, make a short passage to Sorrento or a protected anchorage on the Sorrento Peninsula. Do not use the first day for a long open-water leg.

Day 2 — Sorrento to Capri

Marina di Capri is in the sheltered Marina Grande harbour and lists round-the-clock assistance and shore facilities. Confirm the berth, draft, mooring instructions and arrival window before departure. Keep enough time to go ashore; Capri is a destination, not merely a waypoint.

Day 3 — Capri, Positano and Amalfi

Use Positano as a daytime stop unless a berth is confirmed. Continue to Amalfi in a series of manageable legs instead of trying to visit every cove. In July and August, request an overnight berth early. If western swell rises, choose a protected Sorrento-side alternative rather than forcing a late arrival.

Day 4 — Amalfi, Positano or Nerano

Keep this day flexible. In stable conditions, continue along the coast and finish near Nerano. With wind or swell, shorten the route, avoid a late approach to a small harbour and return to a confirmed protected berth.

Day 5 — Nerano to Ischia

Make the crossing only after checking the open-water forecast. Select a specific port on Ischia—Ischia Porto, Casamicciola or Forio—and verify length, draft and availability. Ischia changes the pace of the week with thermal sites and greener shore scenery.

Day 6 — Ischia to Procida and the Gulf of Naples

Procida is a calmer alternative to Capri and works well for a final island day. Protect the fuel and time margin. If the forecast deteriorates, shorten the leg and return toward the base rather than creating a difficult last-night passage.

Day 7 — Return to Marina di Stabia

Return early enough for fuel, hull inspection, inventory and deposit-release formalities. Confirm the operator’s latest return time before departure. A safe last day is more valuable than one additional cove.

Weather scenarios and booking checks

Stable weather: Marina di Stabia — Sorrento — Capri — Positano/Amalfi — Nerano — Ischia — Procida — base. Wind or swell: base — Sorrento — Capri without a fixed overnight promise — protected Sorrento Peninsula — Ischia only after a new forecast check — Procida or early return. Before payment confirm the exact berth, check-in/out, fuel procedure, overnight plan, deposit, included equipment and cancellation terms. Facts checked 21 August 2026 against Marina di Stabia, Marina di Capri and Italia.it; conditions must be reconfirmed for exact dates.

Frequently asked

Where should a first Italian charter start?
Marina di Stabia is a practical base for the Gulf of Naples because it combines services with access to Capri, the Amalfi Coast and the islands.
What if the weather turns against the Amalfi route?
Shorten the coast section, use the protected Sorrento side, and move to Ischia or Procida only after checking the new forecast.
