Göcek–Fethiye–Butterfly Valley–Göcek by yacht: a seven-day route

Göcek is the right starting point when you want a seven-day Turkish Riviera route with short legs, many protected bays and a practical airport transfer. Use Göcek as the logistics hub, Fethiye and Butterfly Valley as weather-gated highlights, and keep the last night in a confirmed Göcek marina rather than gambling on a distant cove.

Make Göcek the operating base

GoTürkiye describes Göcek as a harbour town with six large marinas and easy access from Dalaman Airport. That combination matters more than a postcard view: you can complete handover, provisioning, fuel and a late-arrival night without spending the first day on a long passage. Confirm the exact marina, berth length, draft limit and checkout procedure in the charter contract.

Inside Göcek’s inner harbour the 2024/2 harbour directive sets a maximum speed of 10 knots, and 6 knots in coves. Treat those as ceilings, not targets: reduce speed further for traffic, visibility, swimmers and marina approaches. Ask the base for the current local notice before departure.

Butterfly Valley is a shore visit with a weather gate

GoTürkiye identifies Butterfly Valley as a first-degree natural protected area enclosed by steep cliffs. The scenic name does not mean a yacht can enter or anchor without checking local conditions. Plan the visit as a daylight tender or shore transfer, confirm whether landing is currently permitted, and keep Gemiler or another approved bay as the fallback.

Ölüdeniz is also a protected lagoon where vessels are prohibited from entering according to the Turkish Riviera guidance. Do not promise an onboard visit to the Blue Lagoon; use the permitted outer anchorage and a local transfer only if the operator confirms it.

Sheltered anchorage near Göcek and Fethiye
Keep the route flexible enough to wait outside exposed cliffs and protected areas.

Passage ranges for a charter boat

Use planning ranges rather than a single promised time. A 40–50-foot charter catamaran can cover the short legs comfortably, but marina manoeuvres, restaurant pontoons and tender operations consume daylight. Confirm the final distances against your yacht’s expected cruising speed and the day’s wind.

LegPlanning range
Göcek → Fethiye≈18–25 nm · 4–6 h
Fethiye → Butterfly Valley area≈12–18 nm · approach and tender daylight
Fethiye → Göcek≈18–25 nm · keep fuel margin

Weather logic: two safe speeds

Scenario A is a settled summer forecast: leave early, use the afternoon thermal wind for a short sail and keep the outer Fethiye coast as an optional highlight. Scenario B is a gusty or stormy window: remain in Göcek’s protected bays, use Fethiye as a shore visit and remove Butterfly Valley first. A successful week is measured by safe daylight returns, not by ticking every cove.

Documents, costs and commercial next step

Budget the yacht, fuel, marina or restaurant-pontoon nights, provisions, tender transfers, local harbour fees, tourist tax and the refundable deposit separately. Foreign-flagged yachts must enter and leave Türkiye through frontier ports; customs records the yacht in the owner’s or captain’s passport. Confirm transit-log, insurance, licence and crew-list requirements with the charter base before payment.

Updated 14 September 2026. For a boat matched to your dates and draft, compare the fleet, send the route through Helm, and ask TrimTeam to confirm current berths before you rely on any cove.

Göcek departure checklist

  • Confirm the exact marina, berth length, draft and checkout hour.
  • Save the current Göcek harbour speed notice offline.
  • Ask whether Butterfly Valley and Ölüdeniz landing is currently permitted.
  • Set the hard turnaround time for the Fethiye–Göcek return.

Questions fréquentes

Is Göcek suitable for a first yacht charter?
Yes. The marina cluster, airport access and many protected bays make the area forgiving, provided you respect local speed limits and confirm each overnight berth.
Can I enter Butterfly Valley by yacht?
Treat it as a shore or tender visit subject to current local permission and sea state. Keep an outside anchorage as the default fallback.
Can a yacht enter Ölüdeniz lagoon?
No onboard entry should be promised: official Turkish Riviera guidance identifies Ölüdeniz as protected and prohibits vessels from entering. Confirm the permitted outer anchorage and transfer with the operator.
What is the safest weather Plan B?
Stay in Göcek’s inner bays, use Fethiye as a shore stop and remove the exposed Butterfly Valley leg first. Return to the base side by Day 6.
Which Turkish documents should foreign crews confirm?
Confirm the frontier-port entry/exit sequence, transit log, registration, insurance, licence and crew list with the base or agent. Requirements depend on flag, ownership and charter format.
